Everyone goes through hard times in life. It rains on the just, it also rains on the unjust. In these times there’s often scriptures we all choose to cling onto, these are some that I find myself leaning on more and more when things get tough.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17, NIV
This scripture is important because for me when I’m dealing with self-doubt. When I feel like maybe the things I’m doing for God aren’t working, or maybe I’m not where God wants me to be. It reminds me that the gifts I have been given, the things I have are all from God and he does not change like shifting shadows.
For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.
Psalm 91:3-8, NLT
I take comfort in this scripture whenever I feel fear of some kind of physical threat to my health, well-being, and general situations. It says that God WILL protect me if I make him my shelter. God WILL protect me.
Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37: 1-4, NIV
I use this scripture to bring me comfort when others are making my life difficult, and whenever I feel like people act wrong and continue to be rewarded for it by their life circumstances. While we do not battle against flesh and blood but against principalities and rulers of darkness in high places it can be difficult to not feel dismayed watching other people be rewarded for doing evil while you’re dealing with trials and tribulations DOING THE RIGHT THING!
This scripture says that they will wither like the grass and that doing the right thing is protected and rewarded.
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31, NIV
When you hope in God you will be renewed. Though things might FEEL hopeless, you WILL soar high on wings like eagles and WILL NOT faint or grow weary!
This entire song is based upon that scripture in Isaiah. He NEVER grows weak or weary and that he gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. It gives me chills.
God is always there for you, He is always a shoulder you can cry on, He is one that will listen to you when no one else does. Lean on him and remember these scriptures as I have during impossible feeling circumstances!
